Woods begins with the camera following a young couple through a piece of night-time woodland. The man walks ahead, and the woman sometimes pauses, looking around her and off into the distance. Few words pass between them. They meet a young man at a campfire, stopping without saying a word. The girl’s male friend falls asleep, and a passionate amorous adventure transpires between the stranger and the girl, also with barely any words being exchanged. Cut to the girl awaking the next morning; gets up and looks at the slumbering young men. To create her videos and the accompanying photographic series, Amit Berlowitz arranges minimalist combinations of objects to create a scene in natural settings whose identity is unclear. In Berlowitz’ recent video series Awakening, she tells miniature stories, with no beginning point and with an inconclusive ending.
