In his works, Doug Aitken describes worlds which oscillate between urban traumata and landscape vacuums. His photos show how overwhelmingly and close to the vibrating pulse of the information age the artist is able to conjure up his visions of the nervous rootlessness of human beings and the eerie barrenness of cities. In collision x 4, a nighttime aerial, double mirrored view of an airport, Aitken reveals imaginations fed from the idea of a futuristic star, with colored strips shooting through the night like futuristic finishing straights. The mirrored landing strips, airstrip lighting and illuminated buildings oscillate between real and unreal.
