Education Program
A major and extraordinary feature of the world tour project is that the whole exhibition is introduced and accompanied by an education program for schools and universities. Educational aims and concepts, to be used by the schools and universities during the exhibition period, are already being worked out in advance, in close co-operation with the local cultural institutions. A book about the exhibition entitled ‘The ABC of the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection. A Workbook for Learners and Students’ (around 220 pp., 60 color ills.) is given away to young people in education and to university students free of charge so that they can find their own way into 20th century art.
In each country, Mercedes-Benz provides free shuttle buses to help school kids and university students to get to the exhibition. Training programs are available for museum employees, teachers and students during the exhibition’s set-up phase. In South Africa, in Tokyo, Buenos Aires and in São Paulo, more than 100 individuals attended the program and later on, disseminated the education program to their audience. The Education program was implemented for the first time in Germany, for the ‘Art & Stars & Cars’ exhibition in the Mercedes-Benz Museum Stuttgart in 2011.
Our world tour incorporates an extensive education program for learners and students for each venue, conceived individually in close collaboration with each museum and realized with the generous support from the respective subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz AG in each country. The collection’s world tour and the accompanying education program has proved to be a significant instrument for demonstrating the cultural commitment of the Mercedes-Benz subsidiaries abroad and for developing their cultural identity. We are convinced that high quality and imaginatively curated exhibitions can have a significant and long-term effect.
