Charlotte Posenenske

Charlotte Posenenske was one of the few artists in Germany in the 1960s to adopt the reductionist thrust of American Minimal Art, while at the same time combining this with political and conceptual moments and a basically democratic view of the art system. In 1966, she produced the ‘sculptural pictures’, their theme is quite clearly the transition from surface to real space. The reliefs were either arranged as part of a multi-piece whole or configured as a series, in principle to be continued. Using weatherproof RAL standard colors, she had the elements produced industrially, like any consumer article, in other words as unlimited series, and unsigned, offering them for sale at production costs. Even after her death the reliefs are produced as reconstructions. The few reliefs produced while the artist was still alive are regarded as prototypes. The series C reliefs comprise just one single type of element in RAL yellow. They have a 45° convex edge, with which they can also be put together to form large, bright surfaces.
