Anton Stankowski
Egozenter, 1952

  • Oil on hardboard
  • 84 x 59 cm
  • Acquired in 1981

Anton Stankowski is unquestionably a pioneer in visual communications – as already seen in his poster for the Kieler Woche at the ‘documenta 3’. His artistic work needs to be re-evaluated in the context of his Eigenformen [Unique shapes] for constructive-concrete art. In 1952 he created his painting Egozenter, an abstract reproduction of a rotating motor, its creative form is derived from a mechanical belt. The beltends in Egozenter are brightened using a different shade of color, here he follows the principles of image-framing that he also employed in his typographical brochures.
