Ulrike Flaig creates manifestations of interstitial spaces which make comprehensible the indistinguishability of realities and imaginings. These photographic digital prints on Dibond – a reflective material – produce space-occupying translucent reflective surfaces with a three-dimensionally curved quality. A chair, a log of wood and a number of towels that are lying around give indications about the surrounding space. The surface initially appears to be an intangible material, comparable to fog, or to light. The same applies to the images’ form: reflections achieve a breaking up of the surrounding space, making the form difficult to define. How concrete is the form, given that it is dissolved – or contradicted – by the surface? Ulrike Flaig’s art emphasizes the fragility and inadequacy related to or our idea of reality.
