Giulio Paolini – a representative of the Concept Art’s structuralistic tendency – working as a stage designer from time to time, tends towards the scenic effect and the combination of different materials. He refuses the production of new pictures and instead analyses the conditions of vision and the relation artist-work-beholder in elaborated spatial arrangements. In Dilemma the central area, in which the vanishing point of the perspective construction is to be located, becomes a picture itself, i.e. an installation of objects with a canvas showing its back and a smashed gypsum copy of a wing. The destruction of perspective illusionist space and with it the unity of the picture itself becomes subject of this installation.
